Sand Dune System
From Newcastle to Wicklow Town there is a complex system of sand dunes and marram grass brimful of wildlife. It is one of the best areas to observe insect life, including Common Blue, Ringlet, Small Heath and Small Copper butterflies, Six-spot Burnet and Common Heath moths. This is also an excellent place to observe Viviparous Lizards and Meadow Grasshoppers.
In summer months there is a host of wildflower species, most conspicuously Early-purple and Common Spotted Orchids, which grow in abundance.
